The First Week home

Tomorrow we will have been home one week. In ways it has flown by and others crawled so slow. I am finally feeling mostly alive ( instead of mostly dead) as those of you that have ever had jet lag can understand. Add a baby terrified to be left alone to the mix and that makes a very sleepy mommy!
To be honest, it has been harder than I imagined it would be. It is so tempting to only post on here and on FB the wonderful blessings adoption had been, but there have been some moments of sheer panic too ( I will leave this for another post when it is not quite so raw)

Micah has did amazing. He loves his room. He eats well. Loves his brother, mac the dog, his bike, movies, video games and the playground. Not so fond of the doctors office, walmart and salads. :)

Sarah is still adjusting. Everyday is better, but she has not been a very happy camper. Thankfully all her tests came back good ( as did Micah's) so we will not have to continue any kind of prolong treatments.

I appreciate ya'lls prayers as we continue to find out new normal!

mommy date time

As I am preparing to leave for Ethiopia this week I am also trying to be aware of that fact that although we are over the moon excited for Micah and Sarah Faith to come home, our little family unit is in for some big changes! I decided that in the midst of making lists and packing suitcases, I would carve out a little one on one time with each of my kiddos, an afternoon to myself and one final date night with Greg on Friday ( our 16th anniversary! )
So Saturday, Abby and I got up at 6:30 and hit some fantastic yard sales! We were at our 3rd community sale by 9am! We finished it off with chick fil a biscuits, sweet tea and a quick trip to Target! Because of our yard sale finding focus, I forgot to take any pictures of us out..but believe me, we got ALOT of good stuff for CHEAP!

I decided Esther's night would be Monday night. She had her final dance class before summer break and afterwards she got to chose dinner out at her pick. She chose Chinese food, because her daddy does not like Chinese so we hardly ever go out and rarely do I cook it! Esther LOVES it though. She is so much fun to have as a dinner date. The randomness of our conversations are hilarious.
Essie enjoying her shrimp lo meinAnd her fortune cookie. I am just guessing one of the reason Chinese women are so skinny is because fortune cookies are their dessert, but it just didn't do it for us, so we had to go get us a little ice cream afterwards!! So much fun! Loved spending time with her alone.

I asked her if she was worried about the new kids coming and she said that she knew Micah would love her, she just was worried he wouldn't like her. I told her that I didnt know a single person that didn't like her. She is just that type of kid....so giving and tenderhearted , it is hard to not like her!

Such a blessing to spend this time with her. I think I am going to take Nate the Great to breakfast one day as that is his favorite meal of the day.

Room Make-over time!

Nathan's room has been an issue in the back of my mind for some time now and this Saturday we were finally able to pull it together and make it a two boy room! Nate had a lot of junk is his room that he never played with and everything was pretty disjointed. He had white bunk beds and really no room decorations. So Greg took the bunks a part and moved them into Esther's room. Then he took Esther's bunks apart and made them into twin beds. We bought some sports wall clings and a lamp to match the comforters and A NEW ROOM!!Nate hanging out on "his side" of the room. We wanted Micah to feel like he had a spot for his own stuff so we kinda split the room.
Loved the wall clings we found at Target. So cute and matched perfect! ( I am going to get a sports flag for the breaker box above Nate's bed!)

Micah's side. I framed pictures of his mother, sister and aunt and also a frame that is a giant card people signed at our adoption shower. I am also working on a frame of his friends from the Transition house in Ethiopia and I want to get him an Ethiopian flag too.

It seems so real now that his room is ready! Only 8 more days until we leave!!

summer Summer SUMMER!

We always try our hardest to finish up school the week of Memorial Day and start our summer June 1st. The neighborhood across the street from where we live has a great pool and a weekly membership is only $30, so while the other kids are still in school for the next few weeks, we take advantage of the pool! We love having the pool to ourselves and with it being in the 90's this week in Carolina it has been a nice place to cool off!

We take our lunch and then usually leave around 1 or 2 (when it gets really hot!)

Nathan wanted me to take a picture of his lunch face he made and share it on my blog!
We will probably buy another week membership this summer and then again in August {when all the kids go back to school ;) }
